Girly bar

Girly bar is old-school nightlife slang for a bar filled with female hosts, bargirls, erotic dancers or freelancers who socialize, drink and flirt with customers. Girly bars are strongly connected with sex tourism, red-light districts, bar streets, and nightlife areas in popular destinations like Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam and parts of Cambodia.

A common girly bar usually has loud music, cheap beer, neon lights, stage dancers, hostess seating and girls encouraging customers to buy lady drinks. Some bars are relaxed beer bars while others are closer to go-go bars with dance shows, pole dancing and heavier tourist nightlife.

Girls in girly bars are usually not officially selling sex inside the venue itself, but many bars operate with a bar fine system where the customer pays the venue so the girl can go with the customer. In practice, many girly bars function as part of the wider nightlife and prostitution business.

Girly bars are especially common in nightlife districts like Walking Street (Pattaya), Bangla Road, Soi Cowboy, Nana Plaza, Patpong, Burgos Street, Ho Chi Minh City and Angeles City.

Girly bar culture

Old-school monger culture is strongly connected with girly bars, especially in Asia. Common topics include bar fine prices, lady drink scams, freelancer girls, Guest Friendly Hotels, drink prices and which bars still have good atmosphere.

Some girly bars are relaxed and friendly, while others are only focusing on tourist money extraction, padded bills and pressure to buy expensive drinks. See Bar and Nightclub Scams and Strip Club Scams.
