Bangkok has one of the largest and most famous gay nightlife scenes in Asia. Silom is the traditional center of gay Bangkok, particularly around Silom Soi 4 and Silom Soi 2, while gay bars, clubs, parties and LGBT-friendly venues can also be found elsewhere around the city.

History of Gay Nightlife in Bangkok

Bangkok has had a large gay nightlife scene for decades. Silom became the main gay area during the 1980s and 1990s when gay bars and clubs started opening around Silom Road.

Silom Soi 4 became the main bar street while nearby Silom Soi 2 became known for clubs and dancing. Many old venues have disappeared over the years, but Silom is still the center of gay nightlife in Bangkok.

Silom is the main place to go for gay nightlife in Bangkok. Most visitors start around Silom Soi 4 and later move to Silom Soi 2. Patpong is just next door.

Silom Soi 4

Silom Soi 4 is Bangkok's main gay bar street. It is packed with gay bars, terraces and restaurants and gets busy in the evening.

Balcony Pub & Bar is one of the best known bars here. The street is good for drinking, people watching and meeting guys before going clubbing.

Silom Soi 2

Silom Soi 2 is more about dancing and late-night clubs.

DJ Station is the best known gay club and has been around for many years. Most people come here later after drinking around Soi 4.

Gay Bars and Nightclubs

Most of Bangkok's famous gay bars and clubs are around Silom. Some places are heavily tourist and expat oriented while others get more Thai guys.

Friday and Saturday are the busiest nights.

Gay Parties

Bangkok has a big gay party and circuit scene.

gCircuit runs the famous Songkran gay parties in April and attracts thousands of visitors. White Party Bangkok is another major circuit event.

There are also many smaller gay parties and special club nights during Bangkok Pride and other events.

Gay Saunas and Gay Cruising Clubs

Bangkok has numerous gay saunas and cruising clubs. They usually have lockers, showers, steam rooms, lounges and cruising areas.

Unlike gay massage shops, guys at saunas normally come to meet other customers rather than hire somebody.

Gay Massage

Gay massage shops are common in Bangkok, especially around Silom.

Some are normal male massage shops while others are adult-oriented. Prices, tipping and services vary between places.

Ladyboys and Transgender Nightlife

Ladyboys and kathoeys are common around Bangkok nightlife, but the ladyboy scene is different from the gay male scene.

Sukhumvit, Nana Plaza, Soi Cowboy and Silom are some of the areas where ladyboys can be found.

Gay Dating and Hookups

Bangkok is one of the easiest cities in Asia for gay dating and hookups. Guys meet in bars, clubs, saunas and through dating apps.

Silom Soi 4 is good for meeting people in bars while Soi 2 becomes more hookup-oriented later at night.

Where to Stay for Gay Nightlife

Stay around Silom or Sala Daeng BTS if gay nightlife is the main reason for visiting Bangkok. Soi 2 and Soi 4 will then be within walking distance.

Sukhumvit is another option if you also want mainstream nightlife, Nana Plaza, Soi Cowboy and Sukhumvit Soi 11.

Stay Safe

Watch your phone and wallet in crowded clubs and don't leave drinks unattended.

Not every Thai guy you meet is looking for sex and not every guy looking for sex is a sex worker. If money is involved, make sure both sides understand this before leaving together.
