Bario Barretto

Barrio Barretto is the main red-light district for the Subic Bay area, about 6.5 kilometers west of downtown Olongapo, Philippines. It was a US Navy liberty port and later became a beach town with many expats. Angeles City has more go-go bars and a busier nightlife scene. Barretto has cheap beer and bar girls along the National Highway.

Downtown Olongapo has a few late-night nightclubs, including Nocturnal and Empire. Around 90 percent of the area's adult nightlife is along Olongapo-Bugallon Road in Barretto.

Bar Fines and Prices

The main difference from Angeles is the bar fine. In Barretto, the 4,000 PHP bar fine includes the sex. You pay the bar rather than paying a bar fine and then agreeing on a separate fee with the girl. A 500 PHP tip in the morning is extra if you are happy with her.

Hotels and Short-Time Rooms

Barretto has fewer short-time hotels than places like Bangkok. Most customers stay in a guest-friendly hotel near the bars and take the girl back to their own room. This is what the bars expect.

  • The Pub Hotel: A popular hotel with punters, usually US$22-33 a night. It is a new building near the bars and allows guests.
  • Central Park Reef Resort: About US$65 a night, just behind the main road.
  • Mangrove Resort: Around US$50 a night, between the bars and Long Beach.

For a cheap two-hour room after meeting a street freelancer, bar staff or budget hotel staff may know somewhere nearby. Short-time rooms are less organized here than in Bangkok.

Transgirls and Ladyboys

Barretto has far fewer transgirls than Angeles City. Angeles has around ten times the customer base and attracts most of the trans workers in the area.

  • Count Nikolas: This was the only dedicated ladyboy bar on the Barretto strip. Its bar fine was 4,000 PHP, including sex. It has permanently closed, according to the 2026 update below.
  • Nocturnal Disko: A late-night club in downtown Olongapo where customers meet trans freelancers. Prices can reach 2,500 PHP.
  • Street freelancers: A few work along the highway, asking around 2,000 PHP. Availability varies.
  • Pina Love: Another place to find freelancers, with prices around 1,000-2,000 PHP.

Erotic Massage

Erotic massage is less common here than in Angeles. Most of the half-dozen massage shops on the main road offer traditional massage, with staff wearing long uniforms. Extras are not offered by every worker, and requests are often refused.

A basic oil massage costs 350-500 PHP. Where extras are offered, a handjob can cost up to 1,000 PHP and a blow job up to 1,500 PHP.

Serenity Nuru Spa charges 3,500 PHP for a package. Customers choose a woman from a numbered lineup. The package includes nude body-to-body massage and a happy ending.

Barretto suits a two- or three-day stay for beer bars and bar girls. Angeles has more options for ladyboys and erotic massage.

Scams and Dangers

Barretto is a quiet beach town rather than an area where visitors regularly face cartels or violent street gangs. The main problems described here involve money and alcohol.

Drink Spiking and Robbery

Drink spiking happens in Philippine nightlife, including to male customers. The aim is to rob the customer. Keep your drink with you. After leaving a drink unattended, buying a fresh one reduces the risk.

Bar Bills

Extra lady drink scams and padded bills are common problems. A mamasan may add drinks you never ordered, hourly service fees or drinks for women you did not invite.

A printed menu should show the prices. Paying cash for each round makes it easier to follow the bill. An open tab can build up quickly, and your credit card should stay in sight.

Motorbikes and Swimming

Drunken motorbike crashes and drowning are bigger dangers to foreigners around Subic than crime. Riding a rented motorbike after drinking or swimming in the sea late at night can end badly, especially when there are strong currents.

2026 Venue Updates

Count Nikolas has closed. Barretto no longer has its dedicated ladyboy bar. Customers looking for transgirls now use dating apps such as Pina Love, meet freelancers or travel to Angeles City.

Serenity Nuru Spa remains open. Its package costs around 3,500 PHP. Customers choose a woman and pay for body-to-body massage with a finish. Most other massage shops on the street still offer traditional massage, and extras are not guaranteed.
