Malate is a district in Manila located right next to Ermita along Manila Bay's Roxas Boulevard. It is one of the main centers of Manila's adult nightlife and is the city's undisputed hub for KTVs and happy-ending massage parlors.

Travel Warning WARNING: Some shady KTVs and street gangs are scamming people in Malate. Unnamed KTVs along Del Pilar will let GROs (Guest Relations Officers) sit at your table uninvited, order food and drinks, and suddenly hand you a bill for PHP 10,000-15,000. Additionally, there has been a severe pattern of motorcycle-riding gunmen targeting East Asian tourists for armed robberies at night. I would avoid walking the dark side streets alone or entering completely empty KTVs. (WikiSexGuide User, October 2026)

Recommendation: Never pay anything advance, just show her the money if the girl insists you to pay first. Always verify the hourly room rate, hostess fee, and bar fine before sitting down in any KTV.

The streets are lined with KTVs, karaoke bars, erotic massage spas, and nightclubs. While neighboring Ermita is known for cheap dive bars, Malate was transformed into "Korea Town" during the 1990s and 2000s thanks to an influx of Japanese and later Korean capital.

The action is concentrated along Mabini Street, M.H. Del Pilar Street, Adriatico Street, and the area surrounding Remedios Circle. Remedios Circle itself draws a very mixed crowd, featuring the student, bohemian, and LGBT scene alongside the tourist nightlife. Notable venues include Club ZZYZX (a massive house/EDM club), The Hobbit House (a decades-old expat pub with live music), Ringside Malate, and Red Kimono (a Japanese-oriented KTV with tatami rooms).

If you are looking for freelancers rather than bar girls, Robinson's Place Manila is an excellent starting point. It's one of the nicest shopping centers in town, but right outside the main entrances (especially near the Arab restaurant corner), independent contractors stand around grinning at foreigners, ready to accompany you to your hotel. For accommodation, Hotel Ava is located at the southernmost point of Malate; despite being a notorious short-term drive-in hotel, its location makes it a highly convenient, girl-friendly base.

Malate is considered riskier than Makati due to its poorer, darker side streets and weaker police presence. The district has seen a recent spate of violent crimes targeting Korean and Japanese tourists. In March 2025, a Korean man was shot and killed resisting a robbery, and in August 2025, two Japanese tourists were executed point-blank on Malvar Street by assassins hired over a financial dispute. While regular Western tourists are rarely the victims of violent crime, petty theft by the "salisi" gang (distraction thieves) and phone snatchers is rampant.

Tips for your Malate Visit

Repeat customers usually get better service than tourists. It is advisable to pretend that you are in city for a longer period of time. This way you get better service because she wants to see you again to get more money. Be aware of the fact, that there are some scammers that want to squeeze out as much cash out of you as possible and returning as little as necessary or nothing at all.

When you negotiate the price make sure:

what is the maximum time you get for the bar fine

how many times you will be able to cum if you are at an erotic massage parlor

are the KTV room charges and lady drinks billed per hour

You will avoid to get scammed if you make things clear from the beginning. Some hookers (usually the KTV girls that believe they are something better than their street freelancer counterparts) promise you everything. Don't lose your head! If you do, this may happen: Suddenly she will only allow you to touch her over her clothes and will start ordering endless lady drinks. She will ask for more money for the bar fine (which can be up to PHP 8,000 for the day), than she will charge another PHP 3,000 if she goes back to your hotel, and each other promise will set you back more and more financially without any real benefit. This scam is designed to get you to a point when you will just say, NO and leave with less pesos and no satisfaction at all. Rather give up your initial investment of a few beers and venture for a new girl outside Robinson's Place if you get caught in this trap. The KTVs have heavy security, and they will not let you leave before you pay the inflated bill. Usually pay is before service. However it is advisable to pay after if possible or deposit the money on a table visible for the lady so she can take it after the job is done.

More Tips for your Malate Visit

The Malate nightlife doesn't come to life before the evening; a good time to visit the clubs and KTVs is after 9 pm.

It gets very crowded on the weekends; the area is active but you should still be cautious and beware of pickpockets and street hookers aggressively offering their services.

If you are lured into a shady KTV with the promise of cheap girls, expect to shell out heavily for hidden room fees and uninvited hostesses.
