Pub Street (Siem Reap)
Pub Street is one of the most famous bar streets in the world and easily one of the best-known backpacker nightlife districts in Asia. For many travelers, Pub Street is the first thing that comes to mind when somebody mentions nightlife in Cambodia.
Here are some things you should know about Pub Street:
- Pub Street is the undisputed nightlife capital of Siem Reap. Every evening thousands of tourists, backpackers and party travelers pour into the area looking for cheap drinks, nightlife and trouble.
- The street is packed with bars, pubs, beer gardens, live music venues, clubs and restaurants. Every few meters somebody is trying to sell you another drink.
- If Walking Street is the king of sex tourism and Khaosan Road is the king of backpacker chaos and loud music, then Pub Street of Siem Reap is 50/50 both.
- The crowd changes every day. Australians, Germans, Brits, Scandinavians, Americans, Koreans and random backpackers from all over the planet end up drinking together here.
- Getting laid is far easier than in most normal cities simply because of freelancers. But most free sex happens with tourists meeting tourists rather than foreigners getting free sex from locals.
- Unlike Pattaya, Bangkok or Angeles City, the street is not built around adult entertainment. People come here to drink, socialize, flirt and see where the night goes.
- Cheap beer is one of the main reasons Pub Street became worldwide known. Backpackers can still find drinks at prices that would be impossible in most Western countries such as 1 dollar beer.
- Hostels, guesthouses, budget hotels and backpacker accommodation completely surround the nightlife district. Many visitors spend several nights here and never move more than a few hundred meters from the bars.
- Walking through the area after dark feels like one giant open-air party. Music comes from every direction and the streets remain busy until very late.
- Many travelers arrive planning to spend one night in Siem Reap and end up staying much longer because of the nightlife atmosphere.
- While visible prostitution is limited compared with Thailand's famous nightlife districts, freelancers, bargirls and various forms of nightlife-related hustling can still occasionally be encountered around the wider tourist areas.
- For pure backpacker nightlife, Pub Street has become one of the most famous party streets in Asia and deserves its place on any list of the world's great bar streets.
Stay Safe
- Keep your phone, wallet and passport safe. Theft is a common problem in bars that are full of drunk party crowd. Common scams happen!
- The biggest danger on Pub Street is typically alcohol and drink spiking is not uncommon.
- Escort and Sex Scams happen so be a careful.
