Khaosan Road

Khaosan Road or Khao San Road is a bar street in central Bangkok, Thailand. It is located in the Banglamphu area of (Phra Nakhon district) about 1 km north of the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew.

Khaosan Rd. in daytime
Khao San Road is lined by budget accommodation, shops and bars catering to tourists

At night time there are handful of street hookers along the street. Also many thai girls come to Khaosan Road to find tourist boys. So there is a big chance to get free pussy. After 2 AM there are also some ladyboys around to find easy drunken guys.

"Khaosan" translates as "milled rice", a reminder that in former times the street was a major Bangkok rice market. In the last 20 years, however, Khaosan Road has developed into a world famous "backpacker ghetto". It offers cheap accommodation, ranging from 'mattress in a box' style hotels to reasonably priced 3-star hotels. In an essay on the backpacker culture of Khaosan Road, Susan Orlean called it "The Place to Disappear." It is also a base of travel: coaches leave daily for all major tourist destinations in Thailand, from Chiang Mai in the North to Ko Pha Ngan in the South, and there are many relatively inexpensive travel agents who can arrange visas and transportion to the neighbouing countries of Cambodia, Laos and Malaysia, as well as Vietnam.

Khaosan shops sell handcrafts, paintings, clothes, pirated CDs, DVDs and second-hand books, plus many useful backpacker items.

There are several pubs and bars, where backpackers meet to discuss their travels. The area is internationally known as a center of dancing, partying, and just prior to the traditional Thai New Year (Songkran festival) of 13 April to 15 April, water splashing that usually turns into a huge water fight.

Prostitution and Escorts in Khao San Road

Khao San Road is not a red-light district like Soi Cowboy or Nana Plaza, but there is still a noticeable presence of prostitution, ladyboy hookers and freelance girls, especially late at night.

Most sex selling here is informal and opportunistic rather than organized. Many Thai girls come to the area specifically to meet foreign men, and interactions often start inside bars or on the street. Some are genuine party girls looking for fun, while others are semi-pro or full-time freelancers expecting payment.

Street hookers can occasionally be seen walking along or sitting near the quieter ends of Khao San Road and nearby side streets. Prices are usually lower than in Bangkok’s main red-light zones, but quality and reliability vary a lot. Reports suggest short-time arrangements can range around THB 1,000 to 2,000, depending on the girl and situation.

There are no visible brothels or go-go bars but most budget guesthouses and nearby hotels are known to tolerate overnight guests. As always, it is recommended to confirm hotel policies before booking.

Escorts operating in the Khao San area are mostly arranged online or through escort agency listings rather than directly on the street. Higher-end services are typically based in other parts of Bangkok and meet clients in hotels.

Like in many tourist-heavy areas, scams do happen. Common issues include girls running up bar bills, last-minute price changes, or disappearing after receiving money. It is advisable to stay alert and read more about Escort and Sex scams before engaging.

For health and safety, always use protection and be aware of risks related to STD when dealing with street prostitutes or freelancers.

Stay Safe

You can see guys on the Khaosan Road holding signs that say "Ping Pong Show". Be aware of them as most of them will take you to a "Ping Pong Show" club either nearby or further in Patpong red-light district area and scam you. It is not un-common to end up with a couple of thousand baht bill when Ping Pong Show with few beers should cost a maximum of few hundred bahts normally.
