VIP room' usually refers to a private or semi-private area insidea a strip club, nightclub, go-go bars, KTV, hostess club or adult entertainment venue reserved for higher-paying clients.
Access is usually controlled by spending or by who you know. But technically it is often similar thing wether you are at a strip club or a nightclub. People pay to get to hang out with cool people in nightclubs and often they brag that they were in VIP room with these and those celebrities, while on strip clubs you get to hang out with hot strippers but you are paying for this. In simple way; on a nightlclub the men are usually the ones who are in the club because of the connections and money and sugargirls and other gold diggers are trying to get in, while on a strip club or at gentlemens club, men are paying to get to the VIP room so they could hang out with hot girls and watch their nude bodies or tits.
Some VIP clubs only offer luxury seating and personal service, while others are connected with flirting, hostess company, erotic entertainment or unofficial sexual arrangements.
VIP room culture is especially common in nightlife cities like Bangkok, Pattaya, Manila, Tokyo, Seoul, Las Vegas and Macau.

A VIP room may include sometimes private karaoke, couches, dancers, security, dedicated waitresses, hostess seating, premium alcohol and more privacy from the main crowd. In some nightlife venues, VIP rooms are also linked with escorts, freelancers, bargirls or after-hours partying.
Prices can become very expensive because of marked-up alcohol, hostess charges, well hidden fees and pressure to order more bottles.
