Bathhouse Rules and Sauna Etiquette
Lockers, Wristbands and Bar Tabs
Some venues give you a wristband that opens your locker and records bar or café purchases. Others use a key or a different payment system.
Find out how it works when you enter. Settle any outstanding charges before leaving.
Towels and Nudity
Follow the house rules in lounges, bars and wet areas. Use a towel when sitting on sauna benches.
Dress expectations can differ between social areas, cabins and cruising spaces. Do not assume every venue has the same policy.
Showers and Washing Facilities
Use the showers and keep shared facilities clean. Some venues provide additional washing facilities, but the equipment and rules vary.
Ask staff if you are unsure how a facility is intended to be used.
Eye Contact, Discretion and Consent
Eye contact is a common sign of possible interest in a gay sauna, especially when it is mutual and repeated. Be discreet rather than staring someone down or following them around.
Do not assume eye contact automatically means consent. It may mean interest, curiosity or nothing at all. If you are unsure, quietly ask before touching.
If someone turns away, steps back, declines or brushes your hand away, stop and give them space. Do not keep trying.
An open cabin door is not automatic permission to enter, join or watch.
Footwear
Bring suitable flip-flops or sliders, or ask whether the venue rents or sells them. Wet tiled floors can be slippery.
Problems and Staff Assistance
Tell staff if someone ignores a refusal, behaves aggressively or makes you uncomfortable.
You can leave an encounter—or the venue—whenever you want.
