Shibari
Shibari Sex Guide covers Shibari, the Japanese art of rope bondage. The word comes from Japan and originally simply meant "to tie" or "to bind", but today it is mostly associated with BDSM, Bondage and fetish culture.
Many people outside Japan also use the term Kinbaku. The practice developed from older Japanese rope restraint techniques and eventually evolved into an erotic and artistic form of bondage. Unlike ordinary restraint, Shibari focuses heavily on appearance, body positioning, rope patterns and the visual display of power.
A lot of people discover Shibari through fetish photography, adult magazines, BDSM clubs and the internet. Others see it as an art form rather than a sexual activity. Some scenes involve Domination and Submission, while others are simply about rope, trust and aesthetics.
While Shibari started in Japan, it is now popular throughout much of the fetish world. Strong rope communities can be found in Tokyo, Osaka, London, Paris, Amsterdam, Paris, New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Bangkok, Sydney and many other well known cities with active BDSM scenes.
Shibari workshops, rope jams, fetish parties and BDSM clubs can now be found across Europe, North America, Australia and parts of Asia. Some professional Dominatrixes and fetish providers also advertise rope bondage sessions as part of their services.
For many enthusiasts the attraction is not necessarily sex itself but the combination of control, trust, vulnerability, beauty and craftsmanship. Others simply enjoy the visual side of elaborate rope work.
