Fetish

Fetish usually means having a strong sexual attraction, excitement or obsession with certain objects, body parts, clothes, materials, role-play, power dynamics or sex acts that are outside of completely “vanilla” sex.

Some of the most common fetishes are latex, leather, BDSM, feet, domination, submission, spanking, uniforms, stockings, bondage, masks, rubber, voyeurism, roleplay and many other kinks. Some people keep their fetishes to themselves and others build entire lifestyles, relationships and nightlife scenes around them.

Fetish culture is often associated with underground nightlife, BDSM communities, sex-positive clubs, swinger clubs, fetish fashion, queer nightlife and alternative club scenes. Cities like Berlin, Amsterdam, London , New York City, and Tokyo are known for their fetish nightlife and kink communities.

KitKatClub in Berlin and others like it helped put fetish nightlife on the map. Fetish parties tend to combine techno, leather, latex, BDSM gear, nudity, kinky fashion and an open sexual energy into one atmosphere.

Many fetish events are not sex-based. For many, the fetish is about fantasy, power, aesthetics, roleplay, body confidence, humiliation, dominance, submission or an escape from normal daily life. Some people don't even have sex at fetish parties, mostly going for the dancing, socialising and atmosphere.

Most people will never open up to their partners about their dirtiest personal fetishes since they are afraid they will be judged. This is why most men example visit escorts and pay for try their fetish dreams.

Fetish nightlife

Fetish nightlife can range from relaxed dress-up parties to hardcore BDSM clubs and open sex events. Some venues focus mostly on music and fashion, while others include dark rooms, bondage furniture, adult play rooms, public scenes or fetish performances.

Dress codes are common. Latex, leather, mesh, harnesses, boots, uniforms, collars, masks and lingerie are often part of the culture. Looking too normal can actually make someone stand out more than being half naked.

Consent is one of the biggest parts of fetish culture. Good fetish scenes usually care a lot about boundaries, communication and respecting limits. Touching people without permission or acting pushy is a fast way to get hated or thrown out.

The fetish world is also heavily connected with BDSM terminology like dominant, submissive, switch, bondage, discipline, sadism and masochism.

Fetish fashion

Fetish fashion became part of mainstream nightlife long ago. Latex catsuits, leather harnesses, chokers, corsets, boots and BDSM-inspired clothing appear everywhere from underground clubs to fashion magazines and pop concerts.

In some clubs, fetishwear is almost required to get through the door. Places like KitKatClub or large fetish parties often reject people dressed in boring tourist clothes, jeans or white sneakers.
