The Republic of Macedonia, (Macedonian: Република Македонија, Republika Makedonija) (accepted in the UN under the provisional reference the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) , is a landlocked country in the Balkans. It is bordered by Serbia and the disputed region of Kosovo to the north, Albania to the west, Bulgaria to the east, and Greece to the south.
Sex Scene and Prostitution
Prostitution in the Republic of Macedonia is illegal. The country is a major transit point for prostitution to the west. The Macedonian government is trying to clamp down on prostitution. The trafficking of women for sex is worth billions in Macedonia and is considered to be run primarily by Albanian gangsters and Albanian Syndicates. Most of the foreign prostitutes in Macedonia are Serbian. During the summer, the number of Serbian prostitutes rises a lot, by gong to a few hundreds. Most of them work for Albanians. There are also a considerable number of Russian and Ukrainian prostitutes, mainly in clubs. Many of them work with seasons, while some of them are trafficked.

Full of the bulk of Macedonia's tourist attractions, in particular the three national parks and Ohrid
|Eastern Macedonia |
Not as many tourist attractions, but some spectacular vistas of rural life.
- Skopje, the nation's capital. It is home to many historic landmarks and architectural monuments, and a great deal of cultural places of interest.
- Ohrid, a lakeside resort and UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is considered the jewel in Macedonia's crown.
- Bitola, the second largest city. It is Macedonia's most "European" town. It has it all: an ancient city, Ottoman monuments, a lovely shopping promenade, great nightlife, and more.
- Kruševo, a museum-city nestled high up in the mountains of southwestern Macedonia. It is one the most historically significant destinations in the country as it was the site of a revolt against the Ottoman Empire. The town is also home to great skiing.
- Prilep, tobacco fields, medieval monasteries, and strange rocks.
- Struga, small town on Lake Ohrid. It receives a fraction of the amount of tourists that nearby Ohrid gets, making Struga much more calm and peaceful.
- Štip, a peaceful city in eastern Macedonia. The town has existed for thousands of years, which is evidenced by its many archaeological sites.
- Kumanovo, the third largest city. The area boasts many churches, pre-modern settlements, and more.
- Tetovo, majority of the population is ethnic Albanians. Home to the Painted Mosque and Monastery of Lešok.
- Radoviš, a small city in southeastern Macedonia, famous for the new Holy Trinity Orthodox Church.
- Strumica, a vibrant city in the warm, sunny southeast. Progressive Strumica is home to great shopping, nearby hiking, waterfalls and hot springs, and the legendary Strumica Carnival.

Gay & Lesbian
Homosexuality in Macedonia is legal and the age of consent is 16 although legal provisions which regulate the age of consent do not discuss specifically whether they refer to heterosexuals or homosexuals. In such a case, Macedonian experts believe, this can be interpreted in a way that the age of consent for same-sex relations is also 16. Changes to the law regarding homosexuality do not reflect a raised public awareness, nor are they an act of goodwill on the part of the Macedonian law and decision makers. It was in the process of becoming full member of the Council of Europe that Macedonia was "forced" to change its Criminal Law in a way that it would no longer discriminate against same-sex conduct and that its provisions on sexual offences would no longer distinguish between heterosexual and homosexual acts. An attempt to change the constitution, which now makes marriage the exclusive reserve of opposite-sex couples, failed to gain the required two thirds majority in 2013. The Macedonian LGBT movement is organized and led by the Centre for Civil and Human Rights, based in Skopje. This civil association was the very first - and so far the only one in Macedonia - that openly deals with the rights of sexual minorities. In August 2002 this Centre, in collaboration with the Macedonian Helsinki Committee, carried out the first official and recorded research into public opinion regarding homosexuality. The results of this research show that in Macedonia it is still a wide-held standpoint that homosexuality is something abnormal - an illness or psychological disturbance that directly violates traditional and family values. It is recommended to avoid displays of affection in public even in places which might seem to be gay-friendly.
Macedonia is a safe country. Driving is not ill-advised, but it's recommended for foreigners to try and use taxis and public transport wherever possible. As in all countries, keep an eye out for pickpockets and all valuables safe. Hotels and most private accommodation will offer a safe to store valuables and cash in. Most people are very friendly and hospitable.
