Non-penetrative sex
Non-penetrative sex means sexual activity without vaginal or anal penetration. It includes activities such as masturbation, mutual masturbation, fingering, rubbing and some forms of oral sex. It is common between regular partners, during foreplay, in casual sex and in some encounters with hookers and escorts.
Non-penetrative sex is sometimes chosen because one or both partners do not want vaginal intercourse. In some conservative Arab and Middle Eastern communities, couples may practice non-penetrative sexual activities because the woman wants to avoid vaginal intercourse before marriage and preserve what is traditionally regarded as her virginity. Attitudes vary enormously between countries, families and individuals, so this should not be treated as a general rule about Arab women.
Non-penetrative sex has also appeared in prostitution. Stories from Istanbul's former prostitution areas, including the old Kadıköy sex scene, describe prostitutes sometimes avoiding penetration while making inexperienced customers believe intercourse was taking place. This allowed the prostitute to complete the session without having penetrative sex with the customer.
For hookers, non-penetrative services may also be offered simply because they do not provide sexual intercourse to customers or because particular sexual activities are excluded from their service.
Non-penetrative sex generally has a lower risk of pregnancy and many sexually transmitted infections than vaginal or anal sex, although the exact risk depends on the activity and infections can still be transmitted through sexual contact.
