Dating

Dating is when two people meet and spend time together because they are sexually or romantically interested in each other. A date can be dinner, a club, a movie or simply hanging out together.

Dating can lead to a relationship, casual sex, a one-night stand or nothing at all. Many people meet through online dating and dating apps such as Tinder.

Dating an Escort or Prostitute

Dating an escort can sound great until you fall for her and start thinking about the next client. Fancying a hooker is one thing. Being her boyfriend while she carries on working is another.

Her job is not automatically cheating. That depends on what you have agreed between you. Some sex workers keep clients and private relationships firmly apart. Others find the line more complicated. You have to talk about it rather than assume you both see things the same way.

Do not assume every client gets fake affection and everything at home must be real. Pay attention to how she treats you, whether she makes time for you and whether you can trust each other.

When Jealousy Kicks In

You can know about the job from the start and still find yourself getting jealous later. Saying "I'm fine with it" is easy before you have feelings.

Work out what actually bothers you. Is it the sex, the money, the late nights or the thought that she might prefer a regular client? If you cannot name the problem, every booking can turn into the same bloody argument.

Agree on how much you want to hear about work. Some boyfriends want the general picture. Others would rather skip the details. Neither arrangement requires access to her client messages or private records.

If your real plan is to make her quit once she loves you enough, say that early. Waiting six months and then demanding she changes jobs is asking for trouble.

Sex After Work

After a long shift, she may want dinner, a shower and sleep. Being paid for sexual attention does not mean she comes home wanting more.

"You fucked him, so why won't you fuck me?" is a lousy argument. You are her partner, not a customer claiming something he has already paid for.

The same goes for camgirls, camboys, strippers and adult performers. Sexual work can be tiring. Leave room for ordinary dates and time together without making sex the point of every evening.

Friends, Family and Privacy

Decide together who knows about the job. Once you tell your mates or family, you cannot make them forget it. Do not reveal her work because you are angry or want somebody to take your side.

A work name, separate phone and private client details can be normal boundaries. They do not automatically mean she is hiding another relationship.

Do not turn up at bookings or contact clients to check her story. If trust has reached that point, you have a relationship problem to deal with.

Calling her a "slut" during agreed dirty talk is one thing. Calling her a "whore" to hurt her in an argument is another.

Dating a Trans Sex Worker

Dating a trans sex worker brings the same questions about trust, money, privacy and work. She may also have to deal with shit from people about both her gender and her occupation.

Treat her as the person you are dating. Do not turn every conversation into questions about trans sex or expect her to teach you everything.

Talk about introductions, public affection and who knows what. Those decisions belong to both of you. Being keen in the bedroom counts for little if you treat her badly everywhere else.

Clients and Sex Outside Work

Working with clients does not automatically mean personal hookups are allowed. Those are separate agreements.

  • Romantic exclusivity - Are you each other's only romantic partner?
  • Personal hookups - Can either of you have sex with somebody outside work?
  • Open relationships - What needs discussing before it happens?
  • Polyamory - Are other romantic relationships part of the arrangement?
  • Privacy - What do you tell each other afterwards?

Some people enjoy seeing a partner happy with somebody else, sometimes called compersion. Others want monogamy. Do not agree to an open relationship just because you are scared of losing someone.

Signs Things Are Going Well

  • She makes time for you outside work, and you make time for her.
  • You both keep the agreements you have made.
  • You can talk about bookings without an interrogation.
  • Money and sex are not used as bargaining tools in arguments.
  • You both have friends and a life outside the relationship.
  • You can disagree without throwing her job in her face.

When Things Are Going Wrong

  • Repeated lying about things you explicitly agreed on.
  • Being asked to pay bills as proof that you care.
  • "I could be with a paying client instead" whenever you disagree.
  • Trying to control her bookings, earnings or clothes.
  • Ignoring sexual boundaries.
  • Feeling like a permanent cash machine or rescue service.

None of this is unique to dating a hooker. Look at the behaviour instead of blaming everything on the occupation.

Money and the Rescue Fantasy

An expensive hourly rate does not tell you what somebody takes home each month. Nor does being an escort mean she needs a boyfriend to support her.

Discuss bills, gifts and loans properly. Buying dinner is one thing. Paying somebody's rent every month is a different arrangement. Know what you are agreeing to.

Some relationships start between an escort and a client. If yours does, have a clear conversation about when paid bookings stop and dating begins. Spending more money does not turn a booking into a relationship.

If she wants to leave the industry, listen to what she wants to do next. If she wants to keep working, decide whether you can live with that. Do not hang around expecting gratitude for a rescue she never asked for.

Can the Relationship Last?

Yes. But have the "what are we?" conversation instead of guessing.

Discuss safer sex, testing, money, privacy and time together. Listen to what your partner says about her own work. Sex-worker accounts can help you understand the industry, but somebody on a forum does not know your girlfriend.

If you spend every working night angry, suspicious or checking her phone, admit the arrangement is not working for you. Staying together just to fight over the same bookings is miserable for both of you.
