Stripper
Stripper is a woman or man who takes off their clothes while dancing for customers. Most work in strip clubs, but strippers also work at private parties, bachelor parties, hotels and other adult venues.
Female strippers are often called exotic dancers or simply dancers. Most are paid through tips, lap dances and private dances rather than a normal salary.
Strip Clubs
Strippers normally dance on a stage before selling private or lap dances to customers. Bigger clubs may have separate VIP rooms where dances cost considerably more.
Some clubs pay the girls, while others actually charge them a fee to work. A busy stripper can make most of her money from tips and private dances.
Clubs can be topless or fully nude. Rules about touching, private rooms and alcohol depend on the club and country.
Strippers and Hookers
A stripper is not automatically a prostitute. Plenty of girls strip for money but never sell sex.
There has always been some crossover between stripping, prostitution, escort work and porn. Some strippers also work as escorts, while hookers sometimes work in strip clubs to meet customers.
In some nightlife areas the line can become pretty blurry, particularly where girls leave the club with customers. In other clubs prostitution is strictly forbidden and a customer asking for sex will simply get thrown out.
Stripper Look
Big hair, high heels, fake tan and huge fake tits were part of the classic stripper look during the 1990s and 2000s. Breast implants became particularly popular with American strippers and porn stars.
Today's strippers come in every shape and size. Natural tits, tattoos and piercings are common, although the big-boob stripper look never disappeared.
Male Strippers
Male strippers work in strip shows, gay venues and private parties. They are especially common at hen and bachelorette parties.
There are also male strip clubs and shows aimed at gay men, particularly in large nightlife and tourist cities.
