Most known Scams in Thailand
The "friendly girl" drink trap
A sexy lady will probably insist that you buy her drinks, which are numerous times more expensive than usual. Always ask up front what the menu price is, or just say no.
Taxi and tuk-tuk detours
In exchange for a high commission, drivers may lead you to a girlie bar or massage business. Use Bolt or Grab to avoid this, or make sure to specify your destination and price first when using regular taxi or moto in Thailand.
Cash-only pressure
After buying something, some businesses will abruptly declare that their card machine is "broken." Set spending boundaries and refrain from running a tab to protect your money.
Fake Venue Staff
You can be led to another beer bar or room with exorbitant charges by someone impersonating as staff. Adhere to desks and entrances that are indicated properly. This is common if you are very drunk.
Overnight charges
Sometimes freelancers accept a certain amount for sex, just to want more the next day. Make it clear if you are consenting to an overnight stay or a brief visit. Also often girls or trannies do not say to you that they are escorts and then on a next day ask money from you. So in Thailands always make sure the girl or ladyboy does not want money when bringing here to your room or going with them.
Room damage
In order to obtain money, some women and ladyboys would accuse you of breaking anything. Keep the room neat and your things safe. Call hotel security if there is a disagreement rather than arguing. Also use the safety box!
Pickpocketing in Clubs
In clubs, pickpockets pose a serious hazard. Dance floors with lots of people are ideal for them. Either wear a money belt or keep your wallet in your front. Your phone should never be left on the table or drinks.
Video and Photo Blackmail
Finally, absolutely no photos or recordings should be allowed during intimate moments. Blackmail is a serious threat.
If the phone rings and a girl answers while you're having sex, stop what you're doing. When you're in unfamiliar rooms or hotels, it's a good idea to check for hidden cameras. If the girl has an iPad or computer open and facing the bed, close it. Plenty of apps can record even when the screen appears black.
ATM Helpers
Be cautious of individuals who volunteer to help you when using ATM since they may be skimming your card or changing your money. Only use bank ATMs found in hotels or shopping centers.
Price Scam
Significantly lower prices frequently lead to a bait-and-switch scam or worse. Keep in mind that safety and quality have a cost.
