Penis
Penis is the male external sexual and reproductive organ. The penis is used for urination and plays an important role in sexual intercourse, reproduction and male sexual function. During sexual arousal, increased blood flow can produce an erection, making the penis larger and firmer.
The main external parts of the penis are the shaft, glans (penis head) and, in uncircumcised men, the foreskin. Penis appearance, shape and size vary naturally between men.
Erection and Sex
An erection commonly occurs during sexual arousal. An erect penis can be used for penetration during vaginal sex or anal sex and may also be stimulated during oral sex and masturbation.
Difficulty getting or maintaining an erection is known as erectile dysfunction and there is help for this.
Penis Size
Penis size varies considerably and may be measured when flaccid or erect. Size alone does not determine sexual function or fertility.
Sexual Health
Using a condom during sexual activity can reduce the risk of sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancy. Usual sexually transmitted infections include Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Syphilis and HIV/AIDS.
Pain, sores, unusual discharge, persistent erection problems or other unexplained changes should be checked by a doctor.
