Daulatdia
Daulatdia (sometimes spelled Daulathia) is one of the most famous red-light district areas in Bangladesh.
The settlement is located near Goalundo Ghat ferry terminal on the Padma River and has operated as a large brothel village for decades. Thousands of sex workers sell sex and live inside the district. Unlike organized nightlife and sex selling areas such as Nana Plaza in Bangkok or the window brothels in De Wallen in Amsterdam, Daulatdia is a crowded settlement made up of narrow alleyways, small brothel rooms and street hustlers bringing customers to the whore houses.
Most guys who come and buy sex in here are local truck drivers, ferry workers and laborers passing through the transport hub, so foreigners are extremely rare.

Brothels in Daulatdia
The entire district functions as a network of tiny brothel houses. Each whore house contains several tiny rooms where workers receive customers. Many brothels are controlled by local madams who manage groups of [[sex worker9]s and handle payments from clients. The rooms are extremely basic and often consist of a bed and very little furniture. Compared with more developed red-light district areas in places like Amsterdam, Berlin or Bangkok, conditions in Daulatdia are extremely rough and from another planet.
Prices depend heavily on negotiation and the worker involved. Foreign visitors are rare and may be asked to pay significantly higher prices than locals.
Entrance Fees
There is no official entrance fee to enter the Daulatdia brothel village. The area is technically a public settlement located near the ferry crossing.
However visitors may encounter informal payments such as:
- tips to middlemen who guide customers to brothel houses
- commissions paid to brokers
- occasional “protection fees” demanded by local fixers
These unofficial payments are common in the district.
Drug Use in Daulatdia
Drug use has been widely reported inside the brothel settlement. The most common substances include:
- Yaba (methamphetamine tablets trafficked in Bangladesh)
- cannabis
- locally produced alcohol
Bangladesh has extremely strict drug laws and possession of illegal drugs can result in severe legal penalties.
Transsexuals / Ladyboys
Unlike major Asian sex tourism cities such as Bangkok or Pattaya, there is no visible ladyboy or transsexual prostitution scene in Daulatdia. The brothel village is almost entirely dominated by female sex workers working inside brothel houses.
Reports of transgender workers in the district are extremely rare and they are not known to operate openly on the streets or in separate venues.
Dangers and Scams
Daulatdia can be a high-risk environment, particularly for outsiders unfamiliar with the area.
Common problems reported by visitors include:
- aggressive brokers competing for customers
- disputes about prices after services
- pickpocketing and theft
- intimidation by local gangs
Foreign visitors attract attention in the district and may become targets for scams.
Health Risks
Sanitary conditions inside the brothel settlement are poor.
Risks include:
- STD
- unreliable condom quality
- limited access to medical facilities
Travelers should understand that health risks are significantly higher here than in regulated sex tourism destinations.
Stay Safe
Visitors entering the district should take basic precautions:
- keep valuables hidden
- avoid isolated alleyways
- stay aware of surroundings
- leave the area before late night if unfamiliar with the district
Daulatdia is primarily a local prostitution settlement rather than a tourist nightlife area.
