Budhwar Peth is a weird place because it is not only about fucking and prostitution. By day it is shops, temples, electronics, traffic, food and normal old Pune things. Then one lane turns dirtier, one staircase has naughty girls watching, one doorway has horny men moving in and out, and the red-light side shows itself. Budhwar Peth is half market and half old brothel.
The sex-work area is cramped, low-end and rough. The old talk was always about brothels, tiny rooms, madams, touts, police, migrants and women packed into bad buildings. The scene has shrunk and shifted over the years with raids, redevelopment, trafficking cases and police pressure, but Budhwar Peth is still the name men mean when they talk about Pune red-light district or Budhwar Peth prostitutes.
The women are mixed: local Maharashtrian workers, women from other Indian states, Nepali women, Bangladeshi migrants, older workers, younger-looking workers, brothel women and street-level types. In Indian street language you may hear hijra, kinner, trans or ladyboy-style talk, but this is not a Thailand ladyboy area where transgirls sell sex openly and grab guys. It is Indian, rougher, more hidden and more local.
Prices are much lower compared with big-city escorts.
