Aksaray

Aksaray is a district in the Fatih area of Istanbul known for street prostitution, street food, bus terminals, cheap hotels, migrant communities, bar scams and budget shopping streets. Because of the large number of travelers and low-cost accommodation in the area, Aksaray has also been mentioned in travel forums and sex tourism guides as a place where street prostitution and freelance sex workers sometimes operate.

Unlike the nightlife escort scene around Taksim Square, prostitution in Aksaray is usually connected to street encounters and budget hotels rather than bars or clubs.

Many tourists searching online for cheap prostitutes in Istanbul or street prostitution Istanbul eventually hear about Aksaray because of its reputation for low prices and late-night street activity.

Street prostitution in Aksaray

Street prostitution in Aksaray has historically appeared around certain busy streets, transport hubs and hotel areas. Sex workers may approach men walking alone late at night or wait near hotels where foreign visitors stay.

Compared to nightlife districts like Beyoğlu or Taksim Square, the scene in Aksaray is usually rougher and less organized. Many of the women working here are freelancers rather than escorts advertising online.

Prices are often lower than escort services in other parts of the city. Some reports mention street encounters starting around US$20 to US$40 depending on the situation and negotiation.

Cheap hotels and prostitution

Aksaray contains many budget hotels used by travelers passing through the city. Because of this, some sex workers approach guests near hotel entrances or nearby streets.

In some cases women may suggest nearby rooms or small apartments used for short meetings. Conditions in these locations can be very basic and sometimes dirty.

Visitors should be cautious when following strangers to unknown apartments or hotel rooms.

Common scams

Like many areas connected to street prostitution, Aksaray is also known for various scams targeting tourists.

Typical scams include:

  • women approaching tourists and leading them to rooms where several men suddenly appear demanding more money
  • theft of wallets or phones during encounters
  • extremely high prices demanded after the meeting
  • fake sex workers working with pickpocket teams

Some scams involve groups working together. A woman approaches a tourist and after entering a building several men appear and demand payment.

Safety warnings

Visitors exploring the area late at night should stay alert. Pickpocketing and aggressive encounters sometimes occur in crowded streets.

Avoid carrying large amounts of cash and do not follow strangers into unfamiliar buildings. If something feels suspicious it is better to leave immediately.

Tourists unfamiliar with the area are generally safer staying in nightlife districts such as Taksim Square where there is more police presence and tourist infrastructure.

Connection to the Istanbul red-light scene

Although Aksaray is sometimes mentioned in discussions about prostitution in Istanbul, it has never been the official red-light district.

Historically the city's legal brothel district operated around Zürafa Street in the Karaköy area. Today most escort activity connected to tourism happens privately through online contacts.
