Chawri

Chawri Bazaar is one of the oldest and most well known red-light districts in Delhi, India. The area has been associated with prostitution since the Mughal period and remained Delhi's main commercial sex district for long times.

Today the sex selling is far less visible than before. Most sex work has moved away from the main streets into small side lanes, apartments and cheap short-time hotels. Street prostitution still exists but is much more discreet than in the past because of frequent police raids and redevelopment.

What to Expect

The area mainly offers street prostitution, small brothels, independent sex workers and budget hotel meetings. Most girls and transgender girls now also use mobile phones and online contacts rather than waiting openly on the streets and back alleys.

Prices generally start around ₹500 to 1,500 for basic sexual services, ₹2,000 to 4,000 for prostitutes in rooms or cheap hotels, while higher-end independent escorts usually charge ₹5000 and more.

Police patrols are common and scams involving pimps still occur. Agree on the price before entering room with a sex worker.
